It comes from the French confident(e) and the Latin confidere, meaning “to trust.”

But beyond the dictionary, a confidante is the one you turn to when you need to say the thing out loud. They’re your emotional safe deposit box — someone who holds your truths without flinching, fixing, or forwarding them.

What is a confidante?

Simply, a confidante is someone you trust with your deepest secrets—those messy, sexy, yearning truths. And I’m not talking about a coach or therapist. Instead, I hold space. I listen, deeply. I witness you. And I hold nothing back.
